Alongside the classic tasks in this area, such as goods receipt and dispatch, order picking and ensuring the internal flow of materials, the team is regularly entrusted with additional assignments. These include optimizing processes and workflows, for example. That calls in particular for their own expertise and for looking beyond their own area.
At the moment, for instance, the team is working on drawing up packaging guidelines and on introducing and applying the 5S method in warehouse and logistics. They enjoy contributing their own ideas and helping to shape the way they work
Our colleagues do not master these interesting challenges alone, but are supported with advice and hands-on help by the whole team. Anyone who prefers can also take on tasks largely on their own and use them to try things out and develop.
But it is not only the additional assignments that characterize work in the warehouse and logistics team. Every morning at 10 the team meets for a shop floor discussion to go through the day’s tasks. Because of the project business RST operates in, the focus of the work shifts, which makes these coordination rounds valuable.
At the start of a large project, goods receipt is particularly busy. Here it has to be ensured that all incoming goods are processed correctly and promptly and that the quality of the delivery is assessed. That allows the other departments to begin their work afterwards. During the life of a project, order picking is one of the most important tasks so that goods reach the right places within the company. Towards the end of a project, dispatching the product to the customer in particular has to be organized and carried out.
Because projects often do not follow one after the other but can overlap in time, it is essential to keep an overview and to tackle tasks proactively. The friendly and well-coordinated teamwork plays a special role here; it is the basis of the daily work and something we value highly.
So what is the best thing about working in our warehouse and logistics team? To find out, we asked team leader Dominik for his personal view.
